Anxiety. We have all heard this word but often it's meaning is confused with minor worries people face on a day to day basis, however it can be much more than that. Often, anxiety can feel like a giant boulder sitting upon your shoulders. It keeps us from feeling inner peace or enjoying the small things that make life wonderful. People often describe it as a cloudiness that keeps them from thinking clearly.  It can also feel like a relentless voice in the back of our heads, or a feeling of nervousness that is constantly nagging at us.  Anxiety can also have multiple physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches or nausea.  Everyone, at some pint in their lives will experiences some sort of anxiety, but often for others it is a situational anxiety. This means that the symptoms only occur when we are facing a certain situation or life event, such as a upcoming marriage, divorce, test at school, or a job promotion but once the situation passes so does the anxiety. For others the symptoms and feelings of anxiety can nag at us all day, everyday for long periods of time with no identifiable reason for it's cause. When we continue to live with anxiety it often leads to sadness and depression.I want you to know that you are not alone. Many people live with anxiety &/or depression but fear sharing their feelings with others to not want to inconvenience or "burden" anyone or most often people are hesitant to seek help due to the stigma surrounding mental health. There is no shame in asking for help; in fact asking for help shows great strength and desire to live a happy life. Therapy can help you learn stress and anxiety management through talk therapy, breathing techniques, emotional and behavioral regulation and if necessary referrals to a licensed professional for medication management.
